Where Mayan Artistry Meets Modern Medicine
Our scrubs are a unique fusion of modern medical attire adorned with artisanal designs from the shores of Lake Atitlan. The scrub top is a rich navy blue with vibrant but minimalist design weaved by hand using natural dyes.
THE PRODUCT
Behind The Scrub
The weaving traditions of indigenous Mayan communities of San Juan La Laguna, a remote village in the western side of the lake, have been passed down through countless generations. The fabric is exclusively dyed with natural materials from the region that include flora, insects, vegetables, and tree bark. The fabric is then cured in a steam bath with plantain leaves so that there is no color bleed. Finally, it is arranged with tools used by the same family for at least 5 generations and woven in antique wooden looms with the chosen design.
Beyond Fabric - Our Social Endeavor
The communities of Lake Atitlan, while rich in artistry, struggle with critical challenges like water scarcity. To help in providing this basic human right, a percentage of our profits will go into the development of a social program called Zakil-Ha.
“Gift from the Heavens” in a Mayan dialect, it will provide the primary requirements for the installation of rainwater harvesting for the entire community. Our aim is to help improve the quality of life for the local villages so that they can continue to pursue their traditions and preserve their heritage. We want every scrub purchased to gift a drop of life to those in need.
