About

Behind the Scrub

I come from a medical family, and I have always respected the medical community. I came up with the mixing of my cultural heritage with the profession I have known and appreciated all my life in a way that could benefit my country in multiple ways.

Each scrub is not just a piece of clothing, but a canvas on which Mayan artisans have added a small but meaningful part of their heritage. While the scrubs adhere to the professional standards that all medical environments require, the handmade patterns made by the artisans, stitch into them a rich connection to ancient tradition. This blend of contemporary design and ancient artistry ensures whoever wears them stands out, blending purpose with heritage.

Meaning behind our brand

Pakalli, meaning “medicine” in an ancient Mayan language, is more than a name – it’s our ethos. We firmly believe in connecting medical professionals to products and tools that have a story behind them. Our brand is founded on the belief that the age-old techniques of dyeing fabrics with natural elements from the region, passed down through generations, finds a modern expression in our scrubs; and with those scrubs we give a canvas to humble Mayan artisans in which to share our culture and artistry with the medical community.

Beyond the Fabric

Our mission at Pakalli does not end at crafting unique scrubs. Throughout Guatemala, there is an urgent need for solutions that can solve the water scarcity that has become a critical problem for so many communities. To resonate with our ethos and the essence of our brand, we are jointly launching Zakil-Ha, or "Gift from the Heavens”, starting out in the surrounding villages of Lake Atitlan.

To provide a higher quality of life for those same artisans and their families, we are establishing a direct link between our business and their livelihoods.

A portion of each scrub sold is dedicated to our rainwater harvesting program. We want every scrub sold to enrich not only our client’s professional careers, but also to provide our communities with such an essential and basic right.
